Hypertension

Hypertension is a disorder of high blood pressure. When your blood pressure is recorded you have 2 readings, an upper higher reading called systolic and a lower reading called the diastolic pressure. The systolic pressure is the pressure in your arteries when your heart contracts and the diastolic pressure is the pressure in the arteries when your heart relaxes. Idealy your systolic pressure should be below 140mmHg and you diastolic pressure should be in the low 80s. Stress, anxiety and being sick can cause blood pressure to go up.

High blood pressure can cause headaches, dizziness and problems with vision but most people have no symptoms at all.

Untreated hypertension can lead to heart attack (MI), stroke, kidney damage and retinal damage
